About
The column to the right says it all in a nutshell: The extraordinary consists of moments, events, and things that unexpectedly catch us off guard - changing how we see the our lives. It defies order, challenges rules, and invites us rethink everything! Extraordinarium is all about sharing, thinking about, and getting imaginative about: the extraordinary, the fantastical, and/or the supernatural It is an open-minded, thoughtful consideration of experiences, events and things that don't necessarily fit into conventions and certainty. Things that provoke confusion and wonder. Among the major themes that Extraordinarium seeks to explore: the supernatural, paranormal, and Fortean coping with uncertainty and the unexpected natural wonders human talents travels and journeys cultural exchanges ideas and imagination The key ways through which the extraordinary is considered include: people’s extraordinary experiences studies of people’s extraordinary experiences and extraordinary things how the extraordinary relates to imagination and ideas There are really five major things that blend together in this theme: ENCOUNTERS with something unfamiliar, whether it be another culture, something in the natural world, or the supernatural. DISRUPTIONS in our everyday routines that force us to act, cope, or even survive in unexpected ways. EXCHANGES between cultures, species, imagination, constructs of reality, and the senses. JOURNEYS in which one moves outside of their comfort zone, of what is familiar. QUESTS that move beyond everyday possibilities and orthodox knowledge. Like the above Venn diagram, these categories overlap. When moving outside of the ordinary, beyond rules that people have made, anything is possible.
